Well done Mark. Nice to see that some people still take time to help out others.

Just a few off the top of my head...Carbury's bread and confectionary, Tullow Street, just opposite AIB Bank. Kinsella's Electrical, where I saw a guitar for the first time, in the window, Dublin St. Opposite the old Post Office. Got my first guitar in Mary Kelly's, £3.10s...where I heard Roy Orbison for the first time...Mary always had the record player going from their living room...long before IMRO! There was a huge shop called O'Rourke's opposite Clerkin's Pub...It sold hardware, toys etc. Got all my guitar strings and tortiseshell plectrums in Douglas Jewelry shop, across from Tully's.(is it still there?). Aitkinson's bike shop on Tullow street...sold roller skates, wheels, fishing line and hooks...that our mothers had to remove later! Burns Barber Shop College Street. Cigar Divan still there, but doesn't smell the same!

Hi Gary, thanks for the comments. I'm not sure why there are so many misconceptions about Educate Together out there. Perhaps it's because there are so few ET schools out there. Overall, I hear lots of great feedback about our school in Carlow but I've often (accidently) eavesdropped on some conversations where I hear all sorts of misconceptions. For example, I've heard that we don't teach the full curriculum (we do); we are a private school (we're not), we're a school for special needs (we're a mainstream school); we don't teach religion (we do); children can't make their sacraments in the school (they can). For such a "normal" school, it is amazing the amount of rumours that go around.

In general, ET schools have risen in popularity due to the demand for choice in primary education from parents in Ireland. I know that when I have children, I could only send them to an ET school. There is a growing demand too for a second level option for students and it worries me that there still isn't an option in 2011.

Simon,

Thanks for posting.

I have to admit, I only recently heard of Educate Together through your tweets and blog posts. Since then I have come across a number of parents who have children attending Educate Together schools.

I have also come across a number of parents who are unsure of the concept. Do you feel there is a reluctance towards Educate Together out there? Have you seen an increase in popularity in recent years and if yes, what do you attribute this change increase to?

Thanks for posting Rozz. I think the headline I saw was, Some Good News At Last and it's so true, after a year(s) of back to back bad news, let's hope this is the first of many good news stories for Carlow this year.
